Quick Start Guide

Get professional room correction in under 10 minutes

What You'll Need

Mac running macOS 12.0 or later
Measurement microphone (UMIK-1, EMM-6, or similar)
Speakers in their final positions
Quiet room (turn off AC, close windows)

Install & Launch

  1. 1Download Sounn from the official website
  2. 2Drag to Applications folder
  3. 3Open Sounn
  4. 4Allow microphone access when prompted

Setup Audio Devices

2 minutes
  1. 1Click the gear icon (top-right) to open Settings
  2. 2Go to Devices
  3. 3Select your microphone as Input Device
  4. 4Select your speakers/interface as Output Device
  5. 5Click Start Monitoring to verify mic signal
  6. 6Optional: Click Import Calibration to load your mic's calibration file

Take a Measurement

3 minutes
  1. 1Place microphone at your listening position (ear height when seated)
  2. 2Point omnidirectional mics straight up
  3. 3From Dashboard, click New Measurement
  4. 4Follow the wizard: enter room dimensions, select 3 positions (recommended), verify mic signal
  5. 5Stay quiet during measurement
The test signal sounds like noise — this is normal!

Generate Correction

  1. 1Go to Correct tab
  2. 2Select your measurement session
  3. 3Choose a target curve:
    • Flat — Reference/mixing
    • Harman In-Room — Home theater/music (recommended)
    • House Curve A — Warm, cinema-like
  4. 4Click Generate Filters
  5. 5Click Apply to Audio

Enable Correction

30 seconds
  1. 1Go to Dashboard
  2. 2Toggle Correction to ON
  3. 3Play some music
  4. 4Toggle on/off to hear the difference!

You're Done!

Your room is now corrected. For best results:

  • Take a corrected measurement to verify improvement
  • Experiment with target curves to find your preference
  • Re-measure if you move speakers or furniture

Pro Tips

  • Use a microphone stand for consistent positioning — never measure handheld
  • Set test signal volume to approximately 75dB at listening position
  • Start with Harman In-Room curve if unsure — it's research-based and works well for most people
  • If correction sounds unnatural, increase smoothing or reduce max boost
