Quick Fixes
- Restart Sounn: Quit completely (Cmd+Q) and reopen
- Reconnect device: Unplug and replug the USB/Thunderbolt connection
- Check System Preferences: Verify device appears in System Settings > Sound
Detailed Troubleshooting
Check macOS Recognition
- Open System Settings > Sound
- Look for your device under Input (microphones) or Output (speakers/interfaces)
- If it appears there but not in Sounn, restart Sounn
- If it doesn't appear in macOS, continue troubleshooting below
USB Connection Issues
- Try a different USB port (directly on Mac, not through a hub)
- Try a different USB cable if possible
- For USB-C Macs, try a different adapter or hub
- Some devices require USB 2.0 ports—try a USB-A port if available
Driver Requirements
Most audio devices on macOS are class-compliant and don't need drivers. However, some professional interfaces require manufacturer drivers:
- Check the manufacturer's website for macOS drivers
- Verify driver compatibility with your macOS version
- After installing drivers, restart your Mac
Resetting Audio System
If devices still aren't detected, try resetting macOS audio:
Reset Core Audio
- Open Terminal
- Run:
sudo killall coreaudiod - Enter your password when prompted
- Audio will briefly stop, then restart
- Re-open Sounn and check device list
NVRAM Reset (Last Resort)
Some audio problems are resolved by resetting NVRAM. This resets system settings including default audio device:
- Shut down your Mac
- Turn on and immediately hold Option+Command+P+R
- Hold for about 20 seconds
- Release and let Mac boot normally
Intel vs Apple Silicon
NVRAM reset works differently on Apple Silicon Macs. The procedure above is for Intel Macs. For Apple Silicon, shut down, wait 30 seconds, then restart.
